| You see a few fireflies here and there on any summer night but the vast majority of firefly flashes are concentrated for about a week's time in mid-June. It's firefly mating season and there is an EXPLOSION of firefly light. The musical accompaniment is provided by hundreds of male Gray Tree Frogs on the make. The firefly talk starts at around 9:30 pm and we walk between 10 and 10:30 pm. Location: TO BE DETERMINED (depending on conditions). Last year we walked in the Tallgrass Prairie at Whetstone Park of Roses but traditionally, we meet in the parking lot at the Wilma Schiermeier, Olentangy River Wetland Research Park, 352 W. Dodridge Street, Columbus, OH and walk the less than one-mile loop. It is not uncommon to see raccoons, bats, and sometimes owls. Flashlights are discouraged but red lights are fine.
