| With environmental consciousness driving us, and SWACO’s goal of 75% diversion of waste, how about taking a look at the huge local dump? Join us for a 90-minute "tour" which will include a classroom presentation in SWACO’s Resource Center and a bus tour inside the operations of the landfill. SWACO (4239 London Groveport Rd., Grove City 43123) is a public agency focused on promoting awareness about the importance of waste reduction, recycling and safe disposal at the landfill. After a talk on recycling right and landfill engineering, we’ll get a close-up view from a school bus ride around the dump. No weather or safety concerns as we will stay on the bus. You see a few fireflies here and there on any summer night but the vast majority of firefly flashes are concentrated for about a week's time in mid-June. It's firefly mating season and there is an EXPLOSION of firefly light. The musical accompaniment is provided by hundreds of male Gray Tree Frogs on the make. The firefly talk starts at around 9:30 pm and we walk between 10 and 10:30 pm. Location: TO BE DETERMINED (depending on conditions). Last year we walked in the Tallgrass Prairie at Whetstone Park of Roses but traditionally, we meet in the parking lot at the Wilma Schiermeier, Olentangy River Wetland Research Park.
